RapportWEALTH

Mathew Pepin - Financial Advisor

Mathew PepinWhat inspired you to work in wealth management?
When I first started working with clients, I always find out what they want to accomplish financially over shorter and longer periods of time. After gathering information, the conversation always flows into a much more in depth discussion of their lives. At that point you develop a relationship and then start to notice the impact we can have as advisors in helping make their lives better. Just having that opportunity to help others in a big way to achieve their potential dreams and goals is what inspired me to work in wealth management.

What do you like most about being a part of the Rapport team?
I enjoy the fact that we all have different strengths, even within a team of similarly-skilled people. Your colleague might be more strategic than you, where you’re more technical. Yet with the RapportWEALTH team when everyone works together the results can be fantastic.

What would you like first time members to know about wealth management?
Trust and transparency are very important to me when building rapport with my members. When I meet with someone for the first time, I always discuss their financial goals. I also encourage my new members to come with questions for me so that I can clear up misunderstandings about investing and help educate them about how investing can work for them. I never go into a first member meeting expecting to convince them of something they're unsure of. Instead, I strive to help my members fully understand their options and how I can help them achieve their goals.

How do you advocate for your members?
I try and take a proactive approach with my members. Do my best to invoke confidence and trust with them to ensure they know I am here to help create a clear financial strategy. Being accessible is also very important, especially in today’s fast paced, competitive world.

How do you spend your free time?
We have a one year old that takes up most of that free time, but if not, I am enjoying many outdoor activities, playing hockey when I can and spending time with friends and family.

Tell us three things that are on your bucket list.
I would like to go sky diving at some point. Travel to Bora Bora and rebuild my father’s old boat.

If you could have coffee and conversation with anyone, who would it be?
Other than my grandparents. It would probably be Barack Obama. I have always admired the way he handles himself and I believe could provide a lot of insight on life.

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
“Don’t walk 10 miles and expect to come back in 5”. Even though you have made great strides to better yourself, you are still going to have tough days.
