Financial Advisor (Toronto)

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director, Wealth Management, the Financial Advisor will attend to the investment needs of Rapport Credit Union (“Rapport”) members and potential members. By understanding the members’ financial objectives, the incumbent will provide counselling services in the area of financial planning and will develop complete financial plans. The incumbent will also be responsible for growing their assigned portfolio of business by attracting new business and retaining existing business. We are looking for someone who has a passion for putting members/clients first and has the ability to build and develop strong partner relationships, while sharing our credit union values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides financial planning services to current and future members; develops complete financial plans for members by identifying member financial objectives, gathering processing and analyzing relevant information, developing the financial plan, implementing and ensuring consistent follow-up.

  • Accountable to grow their assigned investment portfolio based on yearly objectives; including retention of existing business and developing further business opportunities.

  • Promotes, upholds and supports Rapport's mission, vision and Rapport’s strategic plan through development and execution of programs and initiatives to support the financial wellness of our members.

  • Provides counseling services in all areas of financial planning including credit, tax, asset accumulation, pre-retirement, post-retirement wealth building, money management and estate planning.

  • Develops cash/investment portfolios for members relating to all registered products through sales of mutual funds based on member’s financial needs; reviews performance of portfolio annually with members.

  • Actively seeks business with both new and existing members through the coordination and implementation of financial planning seminars. This includes the preparation and delivering of the financial planning seminars.

  • Maintains a high profile and image by establishing member and non-member relations and business contacts by participating in community activities and organizations as a volunteer participant to enhance the credit union’s image.

  • Responsible for travelling to branches within assigned region to meet with members and provide convenience and value added services to members.

  • Responsible for keeping current on financial market trends and fulfills credit requirements of the job through continuing education.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree, ideally in Commerce, Business Administration or related experience.

  • Must currently be licensed (MFDA or IIROC) and hold a Personal Financial Planner (PFP) or Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation, or working towards completion of PFP or CFP.

  • Expert knowledge of the investment industry, products, and the principles of investment advice/financial planning.

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in Financial Planning/Investment Sales.

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficient computer skills - MS Office Suite.

  • Well-developed presentation skills.

  • Valid driver’s license to travel between branches.
