Director, Wealth Management (Toronto)

Position Summary

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director, Wealth Management will provide leadership and direction for the overall management of the Wealth Management, Deposit and Investment area of Rapport Credit Union. The Director, Wealth Management will develop short and long-term strategies to support the overall credit union strategic plan and will be an active participant at the senior management level. The incumbent will also manage the performance of all wealth management staff and ensure targets are achieved, while ensuring branch compliance with all policies, procedures, regulations and legislation. This role will be based out of our Toronto Corporate Office location.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads, directs, coaches and develops a highly trained team of wealth management professionals, whose competencies include financial planning and investment services.

  • Researches and recommends strategies to expand products and services offered by wealth management e.g. estate planning, trust services.

  • Participates as a member of the senior management team in the strategic planning process for Rapport and develops sales plans, budgets and the development of policies and programs for the wealth management, deposit and investment area to meet the strategic goals.

  • Provides counseling services in all areas of financial planning including credit, tax, asset accumulation, pre-retirement and post-retirement wealth building and money management.

  • Oversees and monitors the effectiveness of all branches’ investment programs for GIC’s, RSP and RIF accounts. Develops short and long term planning activities to encourage and promote growth.

  • Actively seeks business with both new and existing members through the coordination and implementation of financial planning seminars. This includes the preparation and delivering of the financial planning seminars for all branches.

  • Oversees the retention of existing business and identifies business development opportunities.

  • On a limited basis, develops complete financial plans for members by identifying member financial objectives, gathering processing and analyzing relevant information, developing the financial plan, implementing and ensuring consistent follow-up.

  • Maintains a high profile and image by establishing member and non-member relations and business contacts.


  • Post secondary education in business, finance or marketing with experience at a senior level in a financial institution or the equivalent in education and work experience.

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Financial Planner.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience leading a group of wealth management professionals.

  • Must currently be licensed (MFDA/IIROC) and hold a CFP designation.

  • Expert knowledge of the investment industry, products, and the principles of investment advice / financial planning.

  • Must be able to demonstrate an in depth knowledge in the following areas:

    • Deposit Services (i.e. Registered Products and Plans)

    • Investment Services

  • Demonstrated strong communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to foster effective working relationships internally across the organization and externally.

  • Actively contributes to a positive and highly effective team culture.

  • Ability to adapt to change while remaining focused on strategic objectives.
